It’s almost August! Soon the 2013 RAL Outdoor Show will be here with so much to see and experience that you may want to plan on coming for both weekends (Aug. 10-11 & 17-18)! With over 120 artists/artisans, there is truly something for everyone. Plus the event will feature local performers, food, pottery (and other art) demonstrations, activities for kids, & more. See more details at the link above. Without further ado, meet the artists: Jo Houtz, Gerilyn “Geri” Gaskill, & Susan Gist.
Jo Houtz says her art is a reflection of her life – eclectic! She lives in Abingdon, MD and started painting after retiring from her federal career. Jo enjoys working in watercolor, pencil and ink, and with a variety of papers. She especially enjoys Japanese Masa paper and uses a waddling technique that gives finished works a wrinkled effect with an exceptional depth of color. She was written up in The Baltimore Sun for her ability to use Masa paper in such an effective manner. On her Web site, Jo explains that her series of works, “The Ancients” are renditions of cave paintings from around the world, all done on Masa paper which enhances their look. See her painting, “The Ancients-Buffalo God,” featured below. Visit Jo at her booth for both weekends of the Outdoor Show and visit her Web site at www.johoutz.com.
Gerilyn “Geri” Gaskill has a passion for capturing the beauty of Delaware’s coastline and Delmarva’s varied scenery in watercolor, oil, and acrylics. Geri’s interest in art started in kindergarten and was nurtured by family members who shared a love of art. Although she got a late start in the career of professional fine arts, she now completes a painting a day, or close to it! Geri believes art runs in her blood and when she is not painting, she enjoys teaching others to paint. She says art happily consumes her every waking moment! Visit Geri at her booth during both weekends of the Outdoor Show. A sample of her work is featured below and you can see more on her Web site at: www.gerisartworld.blogspot.com/
Susan Gist is drawn to shape and texture. Her mission is to inspire through the strength and beauty of her designs. Susan works in sterling silver, fine silver, 14 karat gold-filled and accent designs with 24 karat gold. She also incorporates genuine stones into select designs. With a natural talent for understanding the characteristics of metal and working with its fluidity, she’s found metalsmithing to be a perfect outlet for her creativity. Though primarily self-taught, she enhances her skills through workshops and classes and finds she often learns best by experimenting with and challenging the metal. Always striving to manifest her visions through the metal, Susan continues to bend, form, & create. Her Chakra Curve earrings are featured below.
