If you have visited the Memories of Jack Lewis Exhibition in the Corkran Gallery, you couldn’t have missed his 4 x 8 painting of the RAL Outdoor Show. Jack created this beautiful painting in 2002 and this year it will be the focal point of the upcoming Outdoor Show on August 10-11 and August 17-18.
The sheer size of Jack’s Outdoor Show helps to convey the excitement and endless colors of the event. The piece also speaks to the early years of the show when paintings were displayed on snow fences around the campus. Outdoor Show will be on display along with many of Jack’s works, as well as memorabilia from his family, through August 25. The exhibition is truly a rare opportunity to see a lifetime of creative expression from one of Delaware’s most celebrated and beloved artists. Read more about the collection of Jack’s work in this Delaware Cultural and Historical Affairs Blog post.
This year’s show takes place August 10-11 and August 17-18, Saturdays from 10-5 and Sundays from 10-4. Come out and enjoy the works of over 120 artists and artisans (many of them celebrating a long history with the show) as they fill the already beautiful grounds of the Art League with even more beauty! We have started profiling some of the artists here on the blog, so please check out previous posts. Many artists and artisans will demonstrate their work at their booth and there will also be pottery demonstrations, children’s activities, musical entertainment by local performers, and indoor or outdoor seating to enjoy delicious food selections from Nage and The Point.
In addition to the Outdoor Show, don’t forget to make your way into the Corkran Gallery to see the Memories of Jack Lewis Exhibition, as well as the first of the Monthly Pairings Exhibitions in the mini-gallery and the Recycled/Upcycled Art Exhibition in the Homestead!
Tickets for the Outdoor Show are $5 per adult, per weekend and can be applied to a one-year RAL membership or to any purchase at the Show over $100. No charge for children 12 and under. Please consult the Outdoor Show info on our Web site for information about parking and trolley service.
We are very grateful to Echelon Custom Homes, Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty, and Tidewater Mortgage Services, who have all sponsored this year’s show. This event is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
